As I was eating my lunch today, I was reading the article at the following link
http://www.grist.org/article/2010-02-01-how-personal-actions-can-kick-start-a-sustainability-revolution The article is about the debate if small things matter when the large things are so daunting. The basic answer is yes. Every little thing adds up and by making the little steps and creating good habits, we will be able to influence those around us through our actions.
So I dug the recyclable container out of the trash I just threw away, washed it, and placed it in the bin. I often do this anyway, but I sometimes let myself think I am in too much of a hurry to take that 2 minutes it takes to do this. Lead thru deed. Talk to you soon

"Lead through deed..." Growing up in Iowa, my mom did all these things that other families weren't doing. It always sort of embarrassed me, as a kid-- throwing our eggshells or coffee grounds or vegetable bits and pieces into Mom's compost pile in her wild garden; rarely using the dryer in the warmer months and hanging the laundry outside instead; using vinegar or baking soda to clean just about everything, saving rainwater or snow melt for indoor plants... Many years later, I have drawn upon the simple and frugal ways of my mom as a necessary way of life at 9200' in the Rockies. Teach your children well!
